Having a cast on did not deter my two year old one bit when it came to moving around the house. She never stopped. It was impossible to keep her in one place and despite my many attempts to keep her sitting in a wagon or a chair or in my arms, she just kept going by swinging her injured leg out to the side and forward till it hit the ground with a thump that became a familiar sound. Than she would hurl herself forward to her good leg and became quite fast at this new way of walking. After the cast was removed it took over a week for her to walk as if she had NO CAST on at all. I was worried that it would be permanently damaged in one way and thanks to a very kind doctor, all my fears and questions were dealt with and answered.
Well, now she walks normally, but her new excitement comes from anyone who visits our home. AS soon as I open the door to let them in she enthusiastically holds up her once broken leg to let the world know she does not have a cast. It is very cute to me. AS much as I was worried about the impact of a cast at such a young age, I am pleased to see the joy she derives from being healed and castless.

Eviction Notice for the packrat's belongings.
How many of us are guilty of holding on to things that really have no sense in our life. That napkin from your wedding day or that ticket stub from the great concert we went to. How about that cute toy that you bought for your child that cost a lot of money that is perhaps missing some pieces and so is never used and has not been for years. Or perhaps it is not broken but it is just never played with. OR>>>those clothes that are fashionably outdated and making the wearer look like they stepped out of a time machine, oblivious to the fact that others are wandering around in updated fashions with new colors and fabric. Than there are those that hold on to every shopping bag and never toss for fear that they may come in handy some day. They have even created a container to hold those over-used shopping bags. You attach it to your wall and neatly hold all the bags. But in the end you still have an innumerable amount of them crammed in drawers, closets and cabinets.
Well, we all have a little pack rat inside of us. Some have a huge pack rat, but I am not the latter. I love my space more than anything. My husband on the other hand believes that if it will come in handy someday, hold onto it. I do not mind that way of thinking, as long as you have the space and organizational skills to make it useful.
So, this entire last month was dedicated to dejunking....literally throwing away everything that cluttered my home. I still have a few baskets to do, but if anything was broken or outdated or not used it went out the door and did not come back in. My favorite sound this month was that of the trash truck coming down our street to pick up the numerous bags I had piled out there and the joy was even greater when I would walk out there to see they had picked up everything. YAY....
Admittedly, there will always be things to dejunk, but if it is something that seems to always be in the way, but never used or if it is something that has no purpose, or if it no longer fits the wearer or a hundred other reasons for it not being needed...it is gone. I am tired now, a full month of moving, cleaning and dejunking has left me tired, but very satisfied.
I may be one woman in a house of 6 kids and a wonderful hubby, but I got through it just fine. Who ever said you can't move mountains anyway. I did, and the rubble is now piled high in the city dump.
